The celebration of Dünhor is associated with the beginning of the sermon by Buddha Kalachakra-tantra, which is the basis of the philosophy of Vajrayana. Kalachakra literally means « time wheel » and is one of the most esoteric concepts of Buddhist tantra.
The main goal of the Kalachakra-tantra exercise, as well as any other Buddhist teaching — achieving the state of Enlightenment ( Buddha states ), internal implementation.
The difference between Kalachakra-tantra is that, following its complex set of psychophysical exercises, you can achieve Enlightenment not for a long period of many rebirths, but for one life. Particular importance in this teaching is attached to the practice of mantra. In the teachings of Kalachakra-tantra, the concept of Adibudda — the primary source of being personified in the image of the 24-man Kalachakra and his great-grandmother ( Sanskr. Prague — transcendental wisdom and divine intuition ), personifying the fusion of Time and Void.
According to legend, Kalachakra-tantra began to spread the Asket Tsilupa in India in 965, which brought this teaching from the legendary country of Shambal, where it has been preserved since then, when the Buddha was preached to the king of this country, Suchandra.
Dunekhor-khural is celebrated for three days, from the 14th to the 16th day of the third month of the lunar calendar ( April-May ), with the main celebration on the 15th lunar day.
During the holidays, the monasteries hold solemn prayers ( Khurals ) with reading the treatise of Kalachakra-laghu-tantra-raj. A characteristic element of these prayers is that during their holding, the monks put on special hats and use sacred objects symbolizing the elements of the Kalachakra-tantra doctrine. Particular importance during the holidays is attached to reading mantras. It is also worth noting that the tanks ( images ) Idama Kalachakra are considered the strongest helpers to those who need mental and physical strength — health.
More about Kalachakra Tantra
Three types of Time Wheel are distinguished in the Kalachakra-tantra: external, internal and changing ( transforming ).
The external time cycle — is a continuous stream of changes at the external level, at the level of the world around it and its objects.
The internal time cycle — is a continuous flow of changes at the internal level, at the level of life, at the level of energy channels, pran and bindu. The Kalachakra-tantra says that external phenomena are interconnected with the inner world of a person, with his psyche and body, and therefore, a person can affect the world around him, changing himself. Developing inner peace and tranquility, a person will be able to come to harmony in relations with people around him, expand the space of loving kindness and compassion in the world.
On the other hand, if some external conditions favor a certain internal activity, then other external conditions impede this. The astrology of Kalachakr is aimed at determining the favorability of the moment of various undertakings, which allows to harmonize the internal energy of a person with the external energy of circumstances. The Kalachakra astrological system was the basis for the creation of a new Tibetan astrological calendar.
Kalachakra-tantra also contains a doctrine of the subtle internal structure of the human body. To enter deep practice, the practitioner must present the structure of his own spiritual body with its energy channels, ( prana ), drops ( band ) moving through these channels and staying at special points of the body. Nadi ( energy channels ), prana ( energy ) and the creating drops of our body are called internal Kalachakra in the tantra and form the basis for purification in the practice of the tantra.
