Bhagavad Gita ( Bhagavadgita, Bhagavat Gita ). For some, this phrase is associated with antiquity, wisdom, the East: sincere faith and a strong mind, laconicism and depth, devotion and renunciation... Others recall the great, inspired by Bhagavad Gita in his work and life: writers Lev Tolstoy and Ralph Emerson, physicists Albert Einstein and David Bom, philosophers Georg Friedrich Wilhelm Hegel and Arthur Schopenhauer, musicians « Beatles » and Boris Grebenshchikov, public figure Mahatma Gandhi, owner of the concern « Ford » Albert Ford, actors Bruce Lee and Stephen Seagal and even fascist dictator Adolf Hitler…
However, the Bhagavad Gita – is an ancient legend, and a secret religion, and a deep philosophy, and exact science at the same time.
Bhagavad Gita ( Sanskr. « A song sung by God » ) – is a religious and philosophical dialogue that took place between Sri Krishna and Arjuna immediately before the greatest battle on Kurukshetra.
« Bhagavad Gita », consisting of only seven hundred and four-higher, has been translated into many languages of the world and has a huge number of comments ( more than 600 ). Most of these comments interpret Bhagavad Gita historically, representing Krishna as an extraordinary historical person, or philosophically, representing Kurukshetra as a body, Krishna as a soul, the Pandava brothers as feelings, and Kaurav as vices. However, Bhagavad Gita as she is, literally – is « A song sung by God ».
Bhagavad Gitu cannot be separated from the ancient epic « Mahabharata » ( Sanskr. « The Great Brotherhood » ), of which it is a part. All « Mahabharata » consists of 100 thousand four-powers, therefore it is the largest and most ancient poetic work.
According to Mahabharata, Krishna appeared on Earth as the son of Vasudeva, whose sister Kunti married King Panda. Pandu dies, leaving Kunti with five sons of Pandas. It is they who, by law, must get the throne, however, their blind uncle Dhritarashtra longs for power for his children and therefore divides the Pandas from the Kauravs ( both of them – descendants of the great king Kuru ). Such thinking, dividing the prince by « the sons of Panda » and « my sons », was unusual not only for the kings, but also for people of that time in general. Dhritarashtra did not want to see his selfishness, separatism and demonism. His spiritual blindness was just an obvious reason for the battle.
Right before the battle, the chariot of the best warrior of the Arjuna Pandavs, personally controlled by Sri Krishna, left between the two armies. This is where the famous dialogue took place, in which Arjuna asked questions to Krishna Himself for the benefit of all people. This dialogue discusses various yoga systems and various dharma ( both concepts can be translated as « religion », but it will not be entirely accurate: yoga – from Sanskr. « connection, communication », and dharma – from Sanskr. « religious duty, destination » ).
However, Sri Krishna, realizing that Arjuna’s heart is pure in envy and full of devotion to God, reveals to Arjuna the science of achieving the highest perfection through a loving devotional service.
Since Bhagavad Gita is a quintessence of Vedic wisdom, the day on which she was narrated is a real holiday. On this day, they recall the most beloved verses from the Bhagavad Gita, give it to best friends or acquaintances who will appreciate it, glorify Sri Krishna and His devotee to Arjun.
On this holiday, you actually understand that the Bhagavad Gita – is an ancient but unstable work that can interest both a person sophisticated in philosophy and looking for answers to numerous questions, to which life itself prompts.
Reference. Kurukshetra – a district located north of Delhi, a sacred place of Hinduism, where, according to legend « Mahabharaty », there was a battle between pandas and kauravs, two clans of the same royal clan. Kurukshetra ( Sanskr. Kshtra – field ) got its name in honor of King Kura, who plowed it with a golden plow in the name of the spiritual good of all living. The sacred field of Kurukshetra is mentioned in the ancient Vedas and Mahabharata as a place of sacrifice to the gods. But the greatest fame was brought to him by the great battle, which took place in 3102 BC. According to the preserved evidence, the battle lasted 18 days, and the death toll amounted to about 640 thousand people. Krishna – The Lord Himself, who was embodied on Earth, attended this battle, and here sounded the most famous religious dialogue of all time – « Bhagavad-gita » ( « Song sung by God » ).
