Vijaya Ekadashi (27/02)

In India, every person knows the story of «Ramayana», which tells the story of the divine love of Rama and Sita, from childhood. It is known that A.S. Pushkin wrote his famous work «Ruslan and Lyudmila» based on the ancient «Ramayana». The only difference is that «Ramayana», recorded by the sage Valmiki, is not a fairy tale in its modern sense. Already in the time of A.S. Pushkin's myth was understood not even as a distortion of reality, but as a departure from reality: «Fairy tale – lies...».

However, the myth — is a fairy tale, that is, a reality that eyewitnesses spoke about. Thus, «Ramayana» was told and recorded by Valmiki, who sheltered Sita after Sri Rama expelled Her from the palace.

The story of «Ramayana» — is not a beautiful fairy tale, but a real example of divine love, enhanced by separation. The celebration of Vijaya Ekadashi has been associated with this story since ancient times.

From the conversation between Brahma and Narada Muni from Skanda Purana about the glory of Vijaya Ekadashi, we know that Vijaya Ekadashi gives the result that its name speaks of («vijaya» means «victory»). Sri Rama spent fourteen years in forest exile with His wife Sita and brother Lakshman.

Sita was kidnapped once. In search of His beloved, Sri Rama met the dying Jataya, the king of hawks. Jatayu tried to save Sita and received mortal wounds in the battle, however, while dying, he managed to tell Sri Rama that His dear Sita was kidnapped by the villain Ravana.

Later, Sri Rama befriended Sugriva, a monkey king, with whom they gathered a large army of monkeys and bears and reached the shore of the Indian Ocean that separated them from Lanka.

Lakshman said that the great saint Bakadalbhya lives four miles away: «Let's ask him how we can safely achieve our goal». So Sri Rama and Lakshman came to the modest ashram of the incomparable Bakadalbhyi Muni. Approaching him, the two Lords paid their humble respects to him, as if he were God.

However, Bakadalbhya realized that in reality Sri Rama was the Supreme Personality of God, and that He came to Earth of his own free will as a person. The saint spoke about the greatest of all fasts, observing which even the most fierce enemy will be defeated. Sri Rama did everything according to the instructions of the sage and ultimately won.

Everyone who observes Vijaya Ekadashi will also always be a winner in this mortal world, and then return to the kingdom of God. It is believed that the power of this fast can destroy all sinful reactions of even the most disgusting person. Sri Krishna also concluded that everyone who reads and listens to this story will receive the same benefit as those who perform sacrifices.
