For the first time, International Week of Science and Peace ( International Week of Science and Peace ) was held in 1986 as part of the International Year of Peace. The organization of the events of the Week at that time was carried out at the non-governmental level.
Given the successful celebration of the Science Week in 1986, its organizers decided to continue the tradition. Their efforts were not in vain. In December 1988, the UN General Assembly adopted resolution ( A / RES / 43/61 ), which officially marked the dates for the International Week of Science and Peace. Since then, this event has been celebrated during the week of November 11 — this is the next date after World Science Day for Peace and Development, which is celebrated on November 10.
The UN urged Member States to promote international collaboration among scientists. Tools for this should be all kinds of lectures, seminars, discussions that are held at universities and academies as part of the International Week of Science and Peace.
According to UN experts, the annual holding of the — Week is an important contribution to peace. This event promotes a wider scientific exchange on topics of relevance to all, and also expands public awareness of the relationship between science and the world. It is expected that every year the number of participants in the Week will expand.
