Today, one of South Korea’s most famous festivals — the Cannyn Dano spring festival, or Cannyn Tano ( Gangneung Dano Festival ) opens. The festival got its name from the name of the ancient city of Cannyn, which is located on the shores of the Sea of Japan and thanks to this has become one of the tourist centers of the country.
In addition to tourist attractions, the city is known for its festivals. First of all, this is the Dano festival ( Tano ), which is held annually on the Namdechon River. In 1967, this event was included in the list of intangible cultural heritage, and in 2005 UNESCO included the festival in the list of masterpieces of the oral and intangible heritage of mankind.
Canny Dano passes during the sowing season in May-June, as well as during the harvest season in October. The festival consists of many rituals designed to disperse evil and bring good luck to people, and lasts about a week.
The first day begins with a parade in which thousands of people participate, at the same time the largest temporary market in Korea opens. One of the main performances of the festival — dance with the masks of Kwanno in the spirit of the modern mime theater. One of the main characters of Quanno — noble noble nobleman in a cap with a fan in his hands and a destroyed bride.
Also on holidays it is customary to praise the deities by bringing them a sacred drink. On Cannyn Dano, as a rule, rice pies are cooked, treating them to friends and acquaintances.
Cannyn Dano — is one of the oldest festivals on the planet. The first mention of him is found in « Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms », a chronicle created in 1145.
By the way, in addition to the Dano Festival in Cannes, other significant events are held annually, for example, the International Youth Art Festival dedicated to Korean culture, or the Kenpho Rock Festival.
