Among other pets that brighten up a person’s loneliness, expand his world and please the eye, domestic insects have begun to become increasingly widespread. It is to them that Domestic Insect Day, celebrated annually on March 9, is dedicated.
It is unlikely that an insect can be called a friend of a person in the same sense that we put into this concept in relation to, say, dogs or cats. However, it is known that every living creature on Earth has a place and is important in its own way. We don't often think about the fact that some insects can benefit humans. Most often in this situation we remember bees, but it is quite difficult to classify them as domestic insects in the modern sense of the word.
Insects as pets – is rather exotic, associated with interest in their world, which in everyday life is hidden from human eyes, or a tribute to fashion.
Often the phrase «domestic insects» itself evokes in people a stable association with insect pests, parasites, carriers of infections, bloodsuckers, which cause disgust, fear, discomfort and other negative perception options for most. This refers to cockroaches, fleas, ants, bedbugs. It is these insects that are most often found in the human house, appearing there not at the will of the owner, but as uninvited guests and « invaders». In a number of regions of the world, termites, tree beetles, and spiders may be added here…
The world of insects, however, has always been of interest to many people, because, as mentioned above, most of it remains hidden from human eyes.
Initially, a hobby began to spread among entomologists, and later – among amateurs, expressed in keeping insects at home. Over time, this hobby became quite widespread. Someone got exotic insects to surprise friends and acquaintances and stand out in an unusual way. Someone saw in this hobby an opportunity to plunge into the mysterious world of insects. Others see this hobby as an aesthetic or cognitive beginning.

There were even a number of companies involved in the sale of insects and their breeding. An opportunity has opened up for humans to get acquainted, for example, with the life of ants on specially equipped ant farms or to see in a butterfly the magical process of the birth of a tropical cocoon butterfly.
Insect lovers have the opportunity to observe the behavior of their pets, their diet and even participate in creating conditions for their life similar to those in which they live in nature, and participate in feeding them.
Among the most common domestic insects today, butterflies, tropical cockroaches, beetles, and mantises predominate. It is worth including here representatives of the arachnid class who are not insects: spiders and scorpions.
