In Hungary, Mother's Day is celebrated on the first Sunday in May.
On this day, children give their mothers flowers and symbolic gifts, usually artistic crafts, which they made with their own hands.
The history of the holiday is as follows: in 1907, a young American woman, Anna Jarvis, from Philadelphia, took the initiative to honor mothers in memory of her mother, who died prematurely. Anna wrote letters to government agencies, legislative bodies, and outstanding individuals with a proposal to devote one day a year to honoring mothers.
Her efforts were crowned with the success of — in 1910, the state of Virginia was the first to recognize Mother's Day as an official holiday. Then it spread to other countries. But in a number of countries, Mother's Day falls on different days of the year. Although in essence this is a — holiday of eternity: from generation to generation, for each of us, mother — is the most important person.
