Khao Phansa — is the beginning of Buddhist fasting (14/07)

In summer, Thailand traditionally hosts a holiday dedicated to the beginning of Buddhist Lent Day and the three-month rainy season.

For clergy and monks, the time of meditation is coming — many of them will not leave the temples for three months, and for ordinary people — this is a celebration of the cheerful Candle Festival, Khao Phansa. Twisted and figured candles are made by laymen, and they are given to temples and monks.

The history of this celebration dates back to ancient times, when Buddhist monks did not leave temples during the rainy season, so as not to suppress insects and young shoots with their feet.

Now, these days, everyone is instructed to lead a correct lifestyle — not to drink, not to take drugs and not to commit other inappropriate actions. And the monks tell young people about the teaching and guide them on the true path, since, according to legend, it was at this time that the Buddha ordered his followers to gather in groups and pass on the wisdom of the teaching to everyone.
