Marlborough Wine Festival (10/02)

Wine Marlborough Festival – is New Zealand's largest wine festival.

The Marlborough – region is today a world-famous – wine region located in the northeast of South Island, New Zealand's largest island. It is here that the Wine Festival takes place every year on the second weekend of February.

Every year, gourmets and wine lovers gather here not only from all over New Zealand, but also from abroad. Traditionally, the holiday is held on the territory of the famous Montana Brancott Estate winery.

At the festival, about 50 wineries present more than 200 types of local red and white wine to visitors for tasting, and representatives of the «tasty» industry of New Zealand – present their culinary delights. All this is accompanied by live music and concerts by the best musicians and artists in the country.

In general, winemaking in New Zealand appeared relatively recently – at the beginning of the 19th century. The wine industry itself began to develop only a century later. In the 1970s, a large winemaking company noticed Marlborough and grapevine planting began. As time has shown, this place is ideal for growing grapes for white wine. Since then, the number of wineries has increased every year, and the area of vineyards has been constantly expanding.

Over the course of thirty years, Marlborough turned into the wine capital of New Zealand, becoming the main wine-growing region of the country, becoming famous for the exquisite wines of Merlot, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, and Riesling. But Savignon Blanc wine brought the greatest popularity to the region; it is believed that it turns out to be the best in the world. If earlier for lovers of this type of wine the only standard was the wines of the Loire Valley, now many have unconditionally switched to Sauvignon from Marlborough. These wines captivated the whole world.

A combination of climatic conditions, geographical location and, of course, human talent – is the main key to the success of New Zealand wineries that produce premium wines. And the wine festival attracts numerous tourists here.

A rich cultural program, free wine seminars, wine secrets and more, a festive atmosphere, dancing, general fun and Savignon Blanc – integral attributes of the Wine Festival on the cloudiest edge of the earth. New Zealanders are traditionally proud of their wine traditions, so the Wine Festival has become almost a national holiday for them.
