Festival «Cologne Lights» («Kölner Lichter») – is a magnificent fireworks festival on the Rhine, which takes place every year in mid-July in Cologne.
The festival dates back to 2001 and each time attracts more and more spectators. In the first years, the number of tourists who specially came to the city to watch fireworks was in the tens of thousands. Today their number reaches several hundred thousand people. For example, the seventh festival, according to the organizers, attracted more than a million spectators; 13 thousand people watched the colorful performance in the sky from the decks of dozens of river ships and boats.
Over the years, rumors about the Cologne Festival have reached the UK, France, the Netherlands – and from everywhere curious people come to the Old Town to watch a unique spectacle. Multicolored flashes and sparks, fountains of fire and sparklers turn the Rhine embankment into a sea of flames.
Highlight of the evening – night musical performance in time with fireworks. An exciting concert program and many festive events await visitors.
In addition, during the festival, cafes, restaurants, shops, and souvenir shops operate around the clock. Museums do not close their doors to visitors either.
