Every year, May 28 is International Day of Action for Women Health, or International Day of Action for Women's Health. The decision to establish the date was made at the V International Meeting on Women's Health, which was held in Costa Rica in 1987.
Although in society the term «women's health» most often refers to the reproductive health of women, this concept is still much broader and should be interpreted, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), as a «state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not just the absence of diseases or ailments». After all, women – are not only mothers, but also girls, teenagers, and elderly women. And each of them needs health protection – at every age women need to take care of the prevention of various diseases, protect and strengthen the body.
According to experts, the most common problems in women's health are: breast tumors, menstrual and reproductive disorders, endocrine diseases, obesity or weight deficiency, digestive diseases, and infectious diseases.
But first of all, the attention of today is still drawn to the reproductive health of women, on which the health of her children will depend in the future. In recent years, experts have noted a deterioration in the reproductive health of women of different ages, and also predict a further increase in the number of infertile women. According to WHO, over the past 10 years this figure has almost doubled, and the number of infertile couples worldwide reaches 5%. Although infertility can often be prevented if you contact a gynecologist and endocrinologist in a timely manner. That is why on International Women's Health Day, first of all, they talk about the need for regular preventive examinations by specialists in order to timely identify diseases of the reproductive system and hormonal disorders.
It is also important to say that this work must be comprehensive and supported at all levels – from international and state, when programs on the availability of medical care and counseling for women should work at the level of each country, to individual, so that every woman knows from childhood about the need to maintain her health and prevention of various diseases.
Therefore, the main goal of Day – is to remind the entire general public that health – is one of the fundamental values of humanity, and women’s health is of great importance for the future of any nation.
Moreover, doctors not only recommend regularly visiting specialists, but also remind that to improve health, it is important for female representatives to follow several basic rules:
• lead a healthy lifestyle and exercise,
• take care of a balanced diet, avoiding debilitating diets,
• drink enough clean drinking water,
• observe personal hygiene practices (hygiene procedures, proper underwear),
• follow the rules on sexual behaviour (contraception and control of sexual relations),
• monitor the state of the nervous system (avoid depressive, depressed states, get enough sleep, avoid stress and emotional overload).
Since today's event has already gained fame in many countries, events within the framework of the Day are held with the support of the authorities and various public and health organizations. Each year, the campaign is coordinated by the World Network of Women for Reproductive Rights, which selects the main themes aimed at protecting women's health as well as improving their health literacy levels.
