Since 1993, in accordance with Presidential Decree № 452/93, Ukraine has celebrated Motorist and Road Worker Day on the last Sunday of October (Ukrainian. «Day of the car mobilist and road worker»).
This professional holiday of road transport and road workers has been known since the existence of the USSR as Road Transport Workers' Day. The Ukrainian authorities have made this holiday common to drivers and road workers.
Every year the number of cars, buses, and trolleybuses in the country increases. 22% of cargo and 88% of passengers are transported by road in Ukraine.
Until 2014, the calling card of the Ukrainian automotive industry was rightfully considered the Zaporozhye Automobile Plant — enterprise, a manufacturer of passenger cars, as well as vans and buses. For many years, the largest bus manufacturer in Ukraine was JSC «Lviv Bus Plant» (LAZ). The company produced buses of its own design using the conveyor method.
