Day of National Security Authorities Worker of Armenia (20/12)

The National Security Service of Armenia celebrates its professional holiday on December 20, — National Security Worker Day, the celebration of which takes place at the state level.

During the era of the USSR, this holiday was well known as Chekist Day. The history of its establishment dates back to (7) December 20, 1917 — it was then that the Cheka — All-Russian Extraordinary Commission was formed. Later, the Cheka changed many names — NKVD, OGPU, MGB, KGB.

After the collapse of the USSR, in independent Armenia the functions of the KGB were transferred to the National Security Service (NSS) of the Republic of Armenia, whose responsibilities include protecting the national security of the state from covertly organized threats — these are terrorism, espionage and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

The leadership of the Republic has always attached importance to national security agencies. And the National Security Service of Armenia itself has achieved considerable success among the intelligence services of the CIS countries.

In particular, in coordination with law enforcement agencies of Armenia, the NSS is engaged in solving crimes, fighting terrorism, drug and weapons trafficking, etc. The work of the Service is also aimed at suppressing the destabilization of the situation in the country.

In honor of the holiday, all NSS employees receive congratulations from management and government officials, state awards are presented to the best, and commemorative and ceremonial events are organized.
