Day of National Security Authorities of Kyrgyzstan (20/12)

This professional holiday — Day of National Security Authorities of the Kyrgyz Republic — is established by the Decree of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic dated April 12, 2007 № 120 in order to bring the professional Day of National Security Agencies of the Kyrgyz Republic in accordance with the historical date. The previous decree of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic dated November 19, 1993 № 568, according to which this professional holiday was celebrated on November 20, was declared invalid.

The history of the creation of this unit within the USSR dates back to December 20, 1917, when the All-Russian Extraordinary Commission (VChK) was formed, and a year later, on December 20, 1918, the Pishpek district investigative commission was created.

The previous professional holiday of security officers, celebrated since 1993, was associated with the date November 20, when in 1991, by Decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic «On the reorganization of state security bodies of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan» № 378, the State Security Committee of the Kyrgyz SSR was abolished.

On the basis of the KGB of the Kyrgyz SSR, subordinate to the KGB of the USSR, the national security service — State Committee for National Security of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan was created.
