Every year on January 26, a number of countries celebrate the holiday – Spouses Day, which is not officially established, but no less relevant for society. After all, it is dedicated to married couples, and its main goal is – to remind about the value of family relationships, and the opportunity to once again pay care and attention to your «other half».
There is no reliable information about who established this date – and when. According to one version, he also traces his history to the United States, where he appeared in 1984 as a counterbalance to Valentine's Day, when they celebrate «love» rather than established marital relationships. It was established with the aim of supporting traditional family values and strengthening the institution of marriage. It then gained fame in other Western countries, but became especially popular only in the new millennium.
Be that as it may, today it is celebrated by many married couples and is a reminder of the importance of family and love for each other. It’s not enough to just meet your «other half», it’s important to – maintain love and fidelity throughout many years of marriage, despite all the difficulties and vicissitudes of life. Of course, everyday life can affect relationships. That is why Spouses Day was created to once again remind of those who are nearby « and in grief, and in joy».
Therefore, today is – January 26, – day, when spouses can find time from their busy schedule and devote time and attention, showing special feelings, to their life partner. If you are married, show your imagination and congratulate your husband/wife. You don’t have to go to a restaurant or cafe, you can just have a positive and interesting time together. Visit the place where you first met, or take a walk to the registry office where the relationship was registered, or look at wedding photographs in the romantic setting of the house, or prepare a festive dinner together to your favorite music, or take a walk in the park, or... There can be a huge number of options.
The main thing – is to show your love and respect for a person who has been around you for many (or not so many) years and also loves and respects you and your interests. Or maybe today will be a new «start» for the two of you. Make plans for the future, plan a joint vacation or important acquisitions. And if you are not yet a family person, then congratulate your parents or relatives on this holiday.
In Russia, this holiday is still little known; the most popular is the – Day of Love, Family and Fidelity, celebrated on the day of remembrance of the holy spouses Peter and Fevronia, or the International Day of Families, celebrated on May 15 by decision of the UN. But how can there be many holidays dedicated to family? So Spouses Day – is not only an opportunity to celebrate, but also a reminder that family – is a value that must be protected throughout life. Family culture, respect for each other, preservation of traditions – all this is important to appreciate and pass on to future generations.
