This Slavic holiday dedicated to family well-being fell on September 8 according to the old style, according to the new — it is September 21.
After the initiative, at which the glorifications of Rod, Lada and Leli were mandatory, the ritual of «funeral of flies» began. The caught fly (cockroach, mosquito, wasp) was placed in a carrot house, solemnly taken to a vacant lot and buried in the grave, which meant the numbness of insects during the coming winter.
After the «funeral», a ritual hunt for «voiced» began. Two girls, mummersed in moose (deer), showed up for a short time from the forest and ran away. Hunting guys set out to catch up, trying to catch them. One caught «losikha» was immediately released, and the second was led to the temple, where they were also released, having previously been scolded for forcing the fellows to run for a long time.
The holiday ended with a rozhanitsa feast (ritual food: cottage cheese, eggs, cheese, venison or beef, oatmeal, berry wine) and games.
The games began with a round dance near the oldest of the women, who had bread (preferably oatmeal) in her hands. At the end of the round dance, the bread was divided and distributed to treat people and pets.
