Day of Standardization and Metrology Workers in Ukraine (10/10)

Day of Standardization and Metrology Workers (Ukrainian. «Day of Practitioners of Standardization and Metrology» is celebrated annually in Ukraine on October 10. It was established by Presidential Decree № 910/2002 of October 8, 2002, taking into account the significant contribution of workers in the field of standardization and metrology to the development of the state economy.

Ukraine has a Law «On Standardization», which establishes the legal and organizational basis for standardization in Ukraine and is aimed at ensuring a unified technical policy in this area.

The law states that the purpose of standardization in Ukraine is to ensure safety for human life and health, animals, plants, as well as property and environmental protection; creating conditions for the rational use of all types of national resources and compliance of standardization objects with their purpose; promoting the elimination of technical barriers to trade.

This Law regulates relations related to activities in the field of standardization and the application of its results, and applies to business entities regardless of their form of ownership and types of activities, government bodies, as well as relevant public organizations.

This Law does not apply to nuclear materials, pharmaceutical products, standards of medical care, accounting, education, as well as other social standards, the scope of which is established by relevant laws.

Let us remind you that World Standards Day is celebrated annually on October 14. It was on this day in 1946 that a conference of national standards organizations opened in London at the premises of the Institute of Civil Engineers. The result of her work was the founding of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) — of the new International Organization for Standardization.
