Children's Day is celebrated in many countries around the world, but on different days of the year. In Brazil, Children's Day (Dia das Crianças) is celebrated annually on October 12, along with the Feast of the Appearance of the Virgin Mary.
For the first time, a member of the federal assembly, Galdino do Valle Filho, spoke in favor of holding such a holiday in 1920. Subsequently, in 1924, the President of Brazil, Arthur Bernardes, approved the proposal by decree. Thus, October 12 was assigned the status of an official holiday for Brazilian children.
In 1960, the local company Estrela, together with a well-known children's goods company, held a promotion dedicated to the holiday. This event was a huge success, which, of course, other trading enterprises took advantage of by starting to annually issue special gifts for the children's holiday.
Usually, the day before the holiday, kindergartens and schools hold festive events, for example, a masquerade or a big concert.
October 12 — is a day off that parents devote entirely to their children: they take them to the park, cinema, and playgrounds. Brazilian children are very relaxed and artistic.
Brazilian families usually have more than one child. True, modern young parents still have a certain tendency to have one — two children, unlike previous generations, when having five — six children in a family was the norm.
