Children's Day in Thailand (08/01)

Unlike International Children's Day, which is celebrated on June 1, in Thailand it is customary to celebrate Children's Day on the second Saturday of January.

Children in Thailand are considered the country's most valuable resource. Many Thais are of the opinion that children — are the future of the nation; if children grow up intelligent, then the country prospers.

Children's Day was established with the aim of stimulating the consciousness of every Thai that children play a very important role in the country. The holiday was first celebrated as National Children's Day on the first Monday in October in 1955. Until 1963, Children's Day was celebrated in October, but then the date was moved to the second Saturday of January.

In Thailand, as, probably, in any civilized country, the attitude towards children is reverent and admiring. Therefore, a holiday dedicated to children always gives joy and fun. Many organizations organize festive events for children of all ages on this day. It's nice that almost all entertainment is available either for free or at half price.

Any celebration in Thailand is accompanied by a colorful carnival, procession or festival, depending on the event to which it is dedicated. Children's Day is no exception. The holiday spreads through the streets of all of Thailand, which turns into a fairy-tale country.

Also on this day, charity concerts for children, performances by school groups, carnival processions, fireworks and street fairs are held throughout the country.
