Every year on July 20, Kyrgyzstan celebrates the Day of the National Guard of the Republic. This holiday was established in honor of the historical event — it was on this day in 1992 that the first guardsmen of the National Guard of Kyrgyzstan took the oath of allegiance to the Motherland and people and began performing official duties.
The National Guard was created by Decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic in December 1991, in accordance with the declaration of state independence of the Kyrgyz Republic and in order to ensure the security of Kyrgyzstan as a sovereign state.
As part of the reform of the Armed Forces in 2014, the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan were included in the guard (withdrawn from it in 2018). In 2016, the National Guard was added to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic.
Today, the National Guard of Kyrgyzstan — is a special unit of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic, which plays a special role in shaping the country’s defense. Military personnel of this unit undergo serious selection, physical characteristics, endurance, and fortitude are taken into account.
National Guard — is a military formation that has great potential and has high combat readiness, capable of carrying out the tasks facing it to protect the constitutional order, protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state, participate in the protection of important government facilities, ensure protocol events and rituals when a foreign delegation meets, as well as to carry out other important tasks determined by the leadership of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The leadership of the country's General Staff and senior government officials traditionally take part in the festive events dedicated to the Day.
