Doctors of the Republic annually celebrate their professional holiday, Medical Worker's Day of Kyrgyzstan (Kyrgyzstandyn medicine kyzmatkerinin kunu), on the first Sunday of July.
Medical Worker Day was established by Decree of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic № 253 of June 8, 1993 in connection with the adoption in July 1992 of the Law of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan «On protecting the health of the people of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan».
Usually, on the eve of a professional holiday, a ceremonial meeting of the medical community of the republic is held, in which representatives of the President, the Government and Jogorku Kenesh of the country, international organizations, as well as medical workers from all over the republic, including veterans of republican healthcare, take part.
According to tradition, the best and worthy are awarded a Certificate of Honor of the Kyrgyz Republic, departmental awards of the Ministry of Health of the Republic, and the titles «Honored Doctor of the Kyrgyz Republic» and «Honored Health Worker» are awarded.
The formation of scientific medicine in Kyrgyzstan, the emergence of the first medical institutions began after reunification with Tsarist Russia in 1863. The first infirmaries were opened in military units of the Royal Army, hospitals and paramedic stations for displaced people and civilians in Osh, Pishpek and Karakol.
On the eve of the October Revolution in Kyrgyzstan there were only 7 hospitals with 100 hospital beds, 21 paramedic stations with 15 doctors. Russian doctors played a great role in the development of healthcare in the republic.
Currently, there are about a hundred family medicine centers (FCM) in the republic, which are represented by groups of family doctors (FGV), and there are also many paramedic and obstetric centers (FAP). Health care organizations employ more than 80 thousand people.
In the context of the coronavirus pandemic, today's holiday has acquired special significance. After all, it was on the shoulders of doctors and nurses that the main burden of the fight against this disease fell.
