Every year on February 3, Vietnam celebrates the Founding Day of the Communist Party of Vietnam (Vietnamese). Ngày thành l ⁇ p Đ山ng). The date is not an official public holiday, but it is an important memorable day for all Vietnamese.
Communist Party of Vietnam (Vietnamese. Đ山ng C≥ng s河 Việt Nam) — is the ruling party and the only legitimate political party in the country. Some sources call the party the Marxist-Leninist Communist Party, and the Vietnamese press and Vietnamese people call it «our party».
On February 3, 1930, at a conference in Hong Kong held in Kowloon, Ho Chi Minh (1890—1969) and other exiles living in China founded the Vietnamese Communist Party. Ho Chi Minh, representing the Comintern at the time, presided over the conference.
The Vietnamese Communist Party was organized according to Lenin's principle of democratic centralism. Subsequently, at the direction of the Comintern, at the first plenum of the party its name was changed to the Indochina Communist Party.
In 1945, the party was officially disbanded, this was done in order to hide the communist orientation of the party. In 1951, the party resumed work under the new name — of the Vietnam Workers' Party.
At the 4th Party Congress held in 1976, the Workers' Party of North Vietnam merged with the People's Revolutionary Party of South Vietnam, resulting in the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
In 1966, the party consisted of 760 thousand people; by 1976, this figure increased to 1 million 554 thousand, which was approximately 3% of the total population of Vietnam. By 1986, the party consisted of almost two million people, and today (2021) — has more than 5.3 million people.
Currently, the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam is actively participating in international meetings of communist and workers' parties, believing that socialism, regardless of the winding path forward«, is the only correct path for the further development of the world. And by this day, red flags are traditionally hung everywhere, rallies, demonstrations and other festive events are held everywhere.
