Sheaf Veles Day (12/07)

Veles taught our forefathers to plow the earth, and to sow cereals, and to reap straw in the fields of the afflicted, and to set a sheaf in the dwelling, and to honor Him as the Father of God. «Veles Book», III 8/2/

Days are waning, but the heat is rising. From Veles Day they began to mow and prepare hay: «Mow your braid while the dew — dew is down, and we go home!». On this day, the last bound Sheaf was revered, into which, as the mowers believed, the spirit of the field, and therefore the spirit of Veles, passed during the mowing.

On the same days, peasants finished plowing and began preparing for winter sowing. There was a proverb: «Pow until Veles Day, pick it up until Perun Day, sow — before the Savior. All agricultural work was patronized by Veles.

On this day, the sacred stone Alatyr (or two stones of God and God: the stones of Veles and the Storm of Yaga) was also revered. Near Alatyr — entrance to the Inferno. The Lights recalled that only Veles was able to push Alatyr away from the entrance, and therefore the dead could not get to Nav, bypassing Veles.
