Day of the Archivist of Kyrgyzstan (30/08)

The professional holiday Archivist's Day (Kyrgyzstan archivist kunu), celebrated annually on August 30, was established by Decree of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic № 519 of October 26, 1993, taking into account the decision of the board of the State Archival Agency under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic.

On August 30, 1926, the regional executive committee of the Kyrgyz Autonomous Region (KAO) adopted resolution « On organizing the archival affairs of the KAO and putting archival material in order at the institutions». In accordance with this resolution, on September 1, 1926, an Archive Bureau was created under the Regional Executive Committee of the KAO, which was entrusted with organizing archival affairs in Kyrgyzstan.

This historic decision marked the beginning of the formation and further development of archival affairs in Kyrgyzstan.

Currently, the system of institutions of the State Archival Agency under the government of Kyrgyzstan consists of 3 central state archives of republican significance, 8 regional, 53 district and city state archives, 1 territorial archive (Suusamyrsky in the Chui region).

In total, there are 65 state archives in the country, they store extensive retrospective information on the history of Kyrgyzstan, administrative-territorial division, history of various state and public institutions and organizations of all sectors of the economy, culture, science, relations with foreign countries, data on famous people of Kyrgyzstan.

The archives permanently store more than 4.4 million paper-based items. In addition, more than tens of thousands of film, photo, phono and video units of stored documents. This number is growing every year, thereby showing the importance and significance of this service.

It is important to note the special importance of archives as repositories of historical memory, which have enduring social, state and cultural value. Archival documents are an integral part of the historical and cultural heritage of the people of Kyrgyzstan and its information resources, not only of the Republic, but of all humanity. Today, the archives of Kyrgyzstan are the richest information resources of the state, and they will serve society for centuries.

More than 5 thousand people work in the archival industry of Kyrgyzstan. And on their professional holiday, they receive congratulations from management, colleagues and friends, and those who especially distinguished themselves in their work are awarded departmental awards.
