Day of Justice Workers of Azerbaijan (22/11)

The Day of Justice Workers of Azerbaijan is celebrated annually on November 22, according to the decree of the President of Azerbaijan dated November 11, 2000.

The date for this professional holiday was not chosen by chance. On November 14, 1918, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic approved the charter of the Judicial Chamber, and on November 22, the Regulations of the Ministry of Justice of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic were approved.

Currently, the main activity of the Ministry of Justice is to implement public policy and administration in the field of justice. The Ministry also carries out legal examination, puts forward proposals for improving legislation and draft regulatory documents, participates in the preparation of draft laws and carrying out work on legal education.

In addition, the Ministry of Justice conducts a state register and state registration of legal entities, a register of printed publications, manages the activities of notary structures, implements state registration of the population of the Republic of Azerbaijan and acts of civil status, takes the necessary measures on issues of interstate guardianship of children and legalization of documents within the framework of allocated powers, organizes enforcement of court decisions, controls the execution of criminal penalties, organizational activities of courts, ensures the maintenance of judicial statistics.

In Azerbaijan, for the first time in the post-Soviet space, the penitentiary system was removed from the subordination of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and transferred to the subordination of the Ministry of Justice.
