Every year on February 11, the Republic of Azerbaijan celebrates Tax Service Workers Day.
This professional holiday, established by the Decree of the President of Azerbaijan in 2005, is intended to celebrate the important role of tax service workers in the development of the country's economy and the formation of state budget revenues.
On February 11, 2000, the Ministry of Taxes of the Republic of Azerbaijan was created, which is the body of the central executive power and ensures the implementation of a unified state tax policy. The ministry was created on the basis of the liquidated Main State Tax Inspectorate.
The independently functioning Main State Tax Inspectorate was, in turn, created in 1991 on the basis of the State Tax Service, part of the Ministry of Finance of Azerbaijan.
In October 2019, by order of the President of the Republic «On expanding the functions and structure of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan», the Ministry of Taxes was liquidated, and in its place the State Tax Service of Azerbaijan was created as part of the Ministry of Economy.
The main task of the tax service of the Republic of Azerbaijan is to monitor compliance with tax legislation, the correctness of their calculation, the completeness and timeliness of state taxes and other payments to the relevant budgets.
