Candle Day in Estonia (02/02)

On February 2, according to the Estonian folk calendar, Candle Day (Küünlapäev) is celebrated. People said that on this day winter « is refracted in half».

On Candle Day, ritual food — porridge and pork dishes were prepared. They made sure to make candles, which were then blessed and used in prayers for family well-being and getting rid of diseases.

Candle Day — is the first major holiday for women of the year when they were supposed to drink red juice or red wine to be healthy and fit all summer.

According to tradition, women went to a tavern or other drinking establishment, and men did women's housework that day.

In the work calendar, knitting and spinning began from that day.
