Teacher's Day in Argentina (Spanish. Día del Maestro is celebrated annually on September 11th and is a very important event for the whole country.
In fact, Teacher's Day is celebrated as a national holiday; educational institutions have — days off. This day is significant not only for the expression of gratitude to teachers, it is remembered by Argentines as the anniversary of the death of the country's former president and great educator — Domingo Faustino Sarmiento (1811—1888), who was called teacher—president.
During his reign (1868—1874), Sarmiento initiated many reforms in education, which was an invaluable contribution to the outstanding history of the country's education. He also founded the Maritime and Military Schools, schools of agronomy and forestry in San Juan, Mendoza, Salta and Tucuman.
President Sarmiento also established primary schools in many provinces of the country, during his reign training programs for teachers began to operate, and he advocated the creation of training schools for teachers.
