Today is the exceptional day when every US resident can celebrate a true holiday for their stomach, — National Day when you can eat what you want, or in other words, «Eat What You Want Day. This informal holiday is also called No Diets Day, celebrated annually on May 11th.
It is not known exactly who came up with the idea of celebrating this day and when; according to one version, the founder of this holiday of permitted gluttony was Thomas Roy, a former radio host, television actor and co-founder of Wellcat Holidays & Herbs. The holiday became known precisely as a day that is completely unsuitable for following any diets.
Quite the opposite — is today the only day of the year when you can break all the laws made to maintain (or acquire) a thin waist and enjoy the food you truly adore. Today is the day when you don’t have to look at the list of foods prohibited by the diet, today you can afford a treat or a dish that you would never try under normal circumstances.
But, on the other hand, it is on this day that you should remember that you should not risk your health, well-being and mood in order to challenge unknown delicacies.
There is another side to this unusual holiday. For example, many Americans, who have been convincedly on various diets in recent years, believe that such an anti-dietary event only dampens and relaxes the willpower of a person fighting obesity.

This opinion is no coincidence: for America, obesity is one of the serious health problems. Over the past 30 years, the United States has seen a literally dramatic increase in the number of obese people.
According to the US National Center for Health Statistics, the number of obese American adults by 2019 reached a record high in the history of research, accounting for 37% of the total population. And according to experts, this figure will increase by another 10% by 2030%. Young Americans aged 2 to 19 also face the problem of obesity: in this age group, 18.5% are obese, over 15 years this figure has increased by 33%.
Obesity is known to be one of the main risk factors for cardiovascular disease, some types of cancer and diabetes. Different degrees of obesity are determined by the Body Mass Index — BMI: the numbers 25–29.99 indicate excess body weight (pre-obesity), 30–34.99 — about first-degree obesity.
Russian «response» to the American holiday — Day for giving up excesses in food (Healthy Eating Day), which is celebrated annually on June 2.
