Stress Awareness Day (02/11)

Twice a year, according to the Internet, Stress Awareness Day is celebrated. A number of sources indicate the date April 16, others – every first Wednesday in November.

The autumn date of the celebration is associated with the activities of the International Stress Management Association (ISMA) –, a British charitable organization created in 1973. Even at that time, the negative impact of stress not only on a person’s personal life, but also on his performance became absolutely obvious.

In this regard, the organizers of the Association began their activities in the field of stress management, studying the main factors that are the root causes of stress in a person, identifying the consequences of stress on a person’s physical and psycho-emotional state, as well as developing specific methods for managing stress, reducing stress as much as possible load and its detrimental effect on a person both in personal life and at work. Specialists from many related fields of medicine took part in the work: psychologists, speech therapists, physiotherapists, therapists, neurologists, etc.

The methods offered by the organization’s specialists, such as trainings and training courses, began to gain popularity not only among individual citizens, but also in the manufacturing and business sectors.

Stress – phenomenon is the reaction of the human body to the influence of various kinds of external factors (physical, mental, emotional). But stress – is not just a reaction. We are talking about external influences of a non-standard nature, when these factors are either too intense and their number is large, or from the reverse – their number and intensity are insufficient. That is, in essence, – is a nonspecific adaptation, accompanied by accelerated and enhanced mobilization processes in the human nervous system.

Stress can be either positive or negative. Most often we are talking about a second type of stress, called distress. Unlike the first, which can represent unexpected and very emotionally bright and positive factors and contribute to the mobilization of human strength, distress carries with it apathy, despondency, exhaustion, depression, and undermining human health. Long-term stress causes the occurrence or exacerbation of many diseases.

Experts point out that people’s readiness for stress varies and this depends on many factors. First of all, stress resistance is ensured through a healthy lifestyle. Stress management specialists recommend giving preference to outdoor and outdoor recreation, correctly building your working hours and rhythm of life, giving the body enough time to rest and sleep, giving preference to healthy, varied food and a balanced diet.

It is also necessary to remember that it is simply impossible to completely avoid stress! That is why you need to be prepared for them, knowing how to «hold the blow» of everyday worries and the surrounding reality, especially since there are developed technologies for managing stress load.
