In August 2014, the International Varenja Festival, or the « Moscow jam » Festival was held for the first time in the Russian capital, and since then it has been decided to hold it annually.
Its participants are – cooks and firms from 40 regions from all over Russia, as well as their colleagues from 15 countries near and far abroad. They all come to Moscow to demonstrate their skills by turning the Russian capital into a real paradise for sweets for several days, and treat everyone with their favorite treat for children and adults – jam.
The festival was organized with the active support of the city authorities, the idea of which this event is aimed at restoring the atmosphere of festivities in Moscow. And since jam – is an original Russian treat, it has always been cooked in Russia, so it was decided to hold a festival dedicated to this sweetness.
Everyone can try jam from different regions of Russia ( including Crimea ), prepared according to local traditions, and also – from Italy, Thailand, Azerbaijan, Spain, Mexico… And not only from traditional fruits, but also such exotic jamings as prepared from watermelon crusts, from green tomatoes, spruce cones, dandelions, ginger with lemon, cacti and others.
At the first festival, the favorite jam of Alexander Pushkin, known as « Bersenev jam » TAG1>, prepared in a special original way from the screeders, performed as separate « exhibit », who were collected in the garden on the Bersenevskaya embankment of Moscow. The berries first warmed up, then soaked in vodka, after that they were stored in ice and only after that they prepared in five stages.
By the way, one jam is not limited to business. Guests of the holiday can also participate in various culinary, sports and creative events, various master classes in basket weaving, fruit soap and berry still lifes and many other bright events and actions. And specially for the festival, prepared corporate identity and art objects, huge banks with jam and sand sculptures adorn festival venues.
