Day of Remembrance of the Nine Martyrs of Cyzics (12/05)

At the end of the 3rd century, in the city of Kizik (Asia Minor), nine martyrs were tortured and killed for their faith and preaching. Their incorruptible relics heal from disease. It is believed that this is the most prosperous day for treatment.

A special conspiracy is read over the seriously ill, in which pagan beliefs and the Christian church canon are combined:

«Nine holy martyrs, Theognis, Ruth, Antipater, Theostichus, Arthema, Magnus, Theodotus, Thaumasius and Philemon, heal the Servant of God (name) from nine ailments, from nine misfortunes: so that he does not break, languish, burn, chill, shake, do not shake, knit, do not blind, did not fall off your feet and the earth is not brought into cheese. My word is strong — stronger than iron! Rye eats iron, but my word doesn’t eat rye. My word is locked with seven locks, the locks are sealed, the keys are thrown in the okyan sea, swallowed by whale fish. Amen».
